Methanol Holdings (Trinidad) Limited (MHTL), incorporated in 1999, is the amalgamated entity of its former subsidiary companies, Trinidad and Tobago Methanol Company (TTMC), Caribbean Methanol Company Limited (CMC) and Methanol IV Company Limited (MIV).  In 2003, following a group restructuring, MHTL became the parent company of the operating methanol companies, which was continued in 2004 by way of a group amalgamation and dissolution of the subsidiaries. By virtue of this reorganization and amalgamation, MHTL has acquired over 25 years experience in the methanol business.

The company is headquartered in the Point Lisas Industrial Estate in Trinidad, West Indies at the site of its methanol complex which has five methanol plants with a total production capacity of over 4 million metric tonnes annually.  The company’s most recent plant, the M5000 plant, is rated as the largest methanol plant in the world with a designed capacity of 5,400 metric tonnes per day.

The company’s management and operations are entirely managed and operated by nationals of Trinidad and Tobago.  Its marketing and shipping operations are housed at its corporate office in Point Lisas. The operations of MHTL’s methanol plants have been outsourced to Industrial Plant Services Limited (IPSL) a local plant operation and management company.   This company will also operate and manage MHTL’s new AUMComplex.

Trinidad and Tobago Methanol Company Limited (TTMC)

 

This company was a state owned company which began operations in 1984 with the TTMC I plant, the first world scale methanol plant to be constructed and operated in Latin America with a rated annual capacity of 460,000 metric tonnes.

In 1996 the company commenced another production train with a second methanol plant (TTMC II) which had a rated annual capacity of 550,000 metric tonnes.

The shareholding of the company was fully divested by the state in 1997 to a group of shareholders which included Clico (Trinidad) Limited, Ferrostaal AG, Helm AG and GE Capital Latin America Fund.

Caribbean Methanol Company Limited (CMC)

The CMC plant was the first private sector venture into the local methanol industry by Clico (Trinidad) Limited, CL Financial and Ferrostaal AG.  The CMC plant had a rated annual capacity of 500,000 metric tonnes and the plant commenced commercial production in 1993.

Methanol IV Company Limited (MIV)

 

The ownership of the company comprised CL Financial, Clico (Trinidad) and Ferrostaal AG.

The MIV plant commenced commercial operations in 1998 and had a rated annual capacity of 550,000 metric tonnes.
